DAFT Visa Netherlands | Moving to Amsterdam as an American Entrepreneur
Many of our clients are American entrepreneurs relocating to Amsterdam under the Dutch American Friendship Treaty (DAFT visa). This agreement allows U.S. citizens to live and work in the Netherlands as self-employed professionals. Every year, many Americans move to Amsterdam to start a business, work remotely, or begin a new chapter in Europe. However, finding housing in Amsterdam can be extremely challenging, especially when you are still living in the United States.
Relocating to Amsterdam as American Entrepreneur
The rental market in Amsterdam is highly competitive, and most landlords and rental agencies require strict documentation and financial qualifications. For many international applicants, securing a home without local assistance can be very difficult.
This is where we come in.
At Housing & Co., we have years of experience assisting Americans relocating to Amsterdam, particularly clients moving under the DAFT visa program. We guide international clients from A to Z in finding and securing a rental property, even when they are still living in the United State
Renting a home in Amsterdam as an American
Many expats are surprised by the requirements when renting in the Netherlands. Most landlords require tenants to meet strict financial criteria, such as:
A gross monthly income of 3 to 4 times the monthly rent
Income from a stable company or employer
In many cases, income from a Netherlands-based company
Financial stability and documentation showing consistent income
For entrepreneurs moving under the DAFT visa, these requirements can make the process even more complicated. Many Americans find it extremely difficult to secure housing without the help of a professional rental agent or relocation specialist.
Our team understands these challenges and works proactively to position our clients as strong candidates when applying for rental properties.
